Last night, I was interviewed by Alan Colmes on Fox News Radio. The subject, not surprisingly, was open-carry laws, but he was particularly interested in my comments that gun owners are not a protected class. That last issue has been picked up by the NRA, Opposing Views, Campus Reform and others.
Frankly, I’m a little surprised by the attention this innocuous comment got, since protected classes are clearly defined by the courts. But, if things remained simple, I wouldn’t have a job, and I’m happy my remarks were layered enough to bring out the philosophical issues underpinning my earlier blog post.
Anyhow, here is the link to the interview on Fox News Radio’s website.
Please submit your comments below. Since all of this started on PQED, it would be nice for my readers to have a say, as well.
Hi,
The entire long gun issue started in my home town of Temple, TX with that idiot, CJ Grisham. The officer that arrested him probably wouldn't have had CJ just done what he was told. Instead, he refused directives, cussed, and resisted arrest. I am a republican gun owner, but these people that want to carry them around like it's the wild west are NOT the calm, law- abiding citizens they claim to be. Some have criminal records and use aliases. For months after the Grisham arrest, his supporters called and mailed death threats to police officers, sent fake bombs and poison to the police station, took pictures of the arresting officer's family and home and posted his address on social media. They are an embarrassment to our town. They give gun owners a bad name.
I'm an adjunct professor at a community college in Texas. Our legislature just passed – with all universities & police forces opposed to it – concealed carry of handguns on college campuses. I'm afraid of accidental shootings or intimidation tactics. Can I ask them to pile them in the corner during class? Mrs. Rocki Holder. rockiluholder@gmail.com
